Kathy Carpenter saw the signs for The Pointe Church and was intrigued. She imagined church in a theatre as a completely different experience. I like different, says Kathy. I felt it would be comfortable and I could come as I was.
That’s exactly what she did on the very first Sunday
NEXT THING YOU KNOW
She began to change. No thunder or lighting bolts, jokes Kathy. God didn't reach down and smack me in the head, although He probably wanted to. I just knew it was time to change the way I was living.
Kathy says with the help of the pastors, she’s grown as a Christian. The desire (to grow) was in my heart, says Kathy. The Pointe Pastors gave me the knowledge I needed and the desire to learn more about a God who loves us unconditionally. I am especially thankful to our lead pastor, Ray Harris, who has had the never ending task of answering all my questions and always taking the time to explain things to me. And believe me, it’s a never ending task! Yet he does it cheerfully and for that I am truly grateful.
Baptized at the age of sixteen, Kathy says it was something she did to make her mother happy. It wasn’t something that came from the heart. I’m glad I did it, though, because my mother was not alive to see me accept Christ on my own, admits Kathy. Kathy has since been baptized at The Pointe and considers this day a very pivotal step in her salvation experience.
Kathy has several verses from the New Testament that have really spoken to her heart, but one song that remains her favorite. She was listening to Bob Cain sing, Why Me Lord, on the Gaither Gospel Hour, and the moment she heard it, tears began falling. At first I dismissed it as hormones and told myself to stop being silly, says Kathy. But all of a sudden I was filled with the knowledge that it was the Holy Spirit in me. It was the coolest thing because I have never seen the spirit in myself until that moment. That song will always be special to me for that reason.
Kathy says she had no idea she was going to change so much after attending The Pointe. I’m not even the same person as I was before I started attending the Pointe!
The change is evident to all who met Kathy back in September 2005. By her own admission, Kathy was at a point in her life where she thought she had enough friends and didn’t need anymore. Boy was I wrong, admits Kathy. I didn't let many people into my life back then, but I have meet lots of wonderful people through The Pointe Church and have developed some very cherished friendships. I have grown as a Christian and plan to learn as much as I can, while continuing to follow Jesus. The Pointe has made sure I found Him and I am truly thankful!
Have you ever heard the saying, actions speak louder than words? Kathy is a living example of that saying. Her actions are a direct result of her obedience to the indwelling Holy Spirit. God has been putting the desire in me to volunteer to help wherever I can in the church, says Kathy. He has given me the compassion to want to help people. I still have some of my old reoccurring habits, but at least now when I slip, I notice it immediately and feel bad about it. Believe me I can honestly say I am not the same person I was before I started attending The Pointe!
Kathy volunteers in so many areas
making coffee, greeting, ushering, and assisting in teardown on Sunday mornings. She’s active with Connection Power and regularly volunteers at the Ministry Center, helping with whatever needs done. Kathy also has her own ministry called, Pastor Appreciation. I want to make sure our pastors and their wives know how much we appreciate all they do for us, so I try to remember all their birthdays and see that they get a cake and a card signed by the members of the congregation, she says. I love pastor’s appreciation and pastor’s wives appreciation as it gives us as a church an opportunity to let them know they are really appreciated. |
