What's Your Story?
Meet Andrew Van Veld
Owner of Circle City Audio
I was born the son of poor black sharecroppers and never dreamed I was adopted. Oh, wait, that was Steve Martin. Sorry...false start! My real story isn't particularly compelling..., says Andrew. Seriously, though, I was born into a Christian home and was raised in the church even though my dad left when I was eleven.
Andrew says he became a Christian at a Bill Glass crusade in Indianapolis when he was seven-years-old. I was never really intrigued by getting into trouble and led a pretty smooth life except for the divorce, says Andrew. I spent my college years at Asbury College (UM school near Lexington) where primarily (through lack of guidance) I graduated with a computer science degree.
Upon exiting Asbury, Andrew began a six-year career as a DP Manager (called IT now) at a mission organization headquartered in Greenwood. He then began his own computer business in 1990 and shortly thereafter met a younger girl named, Jodi Scranage. They married one year later.
Together they joined a large church in Greenwood where Andrew says they became heavily involved in the music ministry both for adult worship and the youth programs. This is where I was able to start having fun playing the piano and eventually the guitar, all while leading the youth group worship band for several years as a volunteer, admits Andrew. In late spring of 2004 the wheels spun off the computer business when it became suddenly apparent that my bookkeeper was a problem. Thankfully, I had the pro-audio business on the side which God had been growing just that spring so I had something to do for income while dealing with courts and the government.
As a by product of this shutdown, Andrew and Jodi were free to move from Andrew’s hometown of Greenwood to Jodi’s hometown, Fort Wayne. They did so at the end of 2006.
The couple attended The Pointe on January 1, 2006, primarily due to the sign they saw in the Rave Motion Picture Theatre. Jodi had a list of churches she wanted to check out in the area, but Andrew admits they basically took the One Pointe Challenge. We truly feel that God brought us here to The Pointe to participate in this church body. We're so thankful that we've been able to serve and appreciative all of the serving we've received.
